We take a tremendous amount of care in providing safe, clean, well-maintained facilities with professional third-party pest control. However, it is ultimately up to the customer to make sure that the items they are storing are not directly on the floor, properly wrapped and packed appropriately to ensure they are protected. Examples of this practice would include protective covers for mattresses, furniture bags, wrapping items in bubble wrap and securing/wrapping items to avoid pest infiltration. Properly stacking items or putting items on shelves is always helpful as well. And most of all, never store food or items in a unit that will attract rodents or pests.

This is a great question. It all depends on what insurance you have. If you purchase a tenant protection plan that is specifically designed for storage customers, you can choose the amount of coverage that is right for you. If you choose to use your own insurance (for example a homeowner’s policy or renter’s policy), make sure that they cover the contents of the storage you are renting. We are hearing that a lot of policies do not cover the contents of a storage unit so please verify. We always recommend purchasing a specialized, storage unit specific policy, like the ones we offer through Deans and Homer.
